As I\u2019ve said recently \u2013 \u201cputting our money where our mouth is.\u201d &nbsp;<br><br>I realise renewable natural gas might not mean much to people outside the industry so let me explain\u2026 &nbsp;It\u2019s gas from organic waste \u2013 homes, cities and farms \u2013 that is captured instead of vented into the atmosphere or flared. That gas can then be processed and used for power or transport. A double win for the environment. &nbsp;<br><br>It\u2019s a big deal for our company \u2013 accelerating growth in bioenergy \u2013 one of our 5 transition growth engines. And it\u2019s a compelling combination of Archaea\u2019s fantastic, fast-growing business and bp\u2019s trading expertise and global customer base \u2013 so we\u2019re creating a real biogas leader. &nbsp;&nbsp;<br><br>Plus, it\u2019s another great example of bp doing what we said we would \u2013 investing with discipline into the energy transition and supporting our net zero ambition. It\u2019s exactly what our transformation into an integrated energy company is all about.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br><br>So this is a great move \u2013 for bp, Archaea, our customers, and our investors. A big thank you to everyone involved \u2013 and we look forward to welcoming the brilliant Archaea team.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many of the comments were salutary from the BP community. But the negative comments were notable.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/feed\/update\/urn:li:activity:6987736273876566016?commentUrn=urn%3Ali%3Acomment%3A%28activity%3A6987736273876566016%2C6987787881939447808%29\">Mine<\/a>&nbsp;was:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Government subsidies? Cost and opportunity cost? Greenwashing?<br>Your investors want to know\u2026<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And a better&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/feed\/update\/urn:li:activity:6987736273876566016?commentUrn=urn%3Ali%3Acomment%3A%28activity%3A6987736273876566016%2C6987787881939447808%29\">comment<\/a>&nbsp;by Rachid Melliti:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is interesting but based on the relative maturity of the company (IPO in 2021?) , The fact it is loss making , and ridden with debt, $3.3b seems an excessive price to pay on the potential returns the company will generate mainly based on BP\u2019s ability to open doors. Is it a matter of having so much cash that acquiring companies seems to be what must be done rather than the right thing to do?<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And others:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Archaea Energy is a loss making company. Will this be an asset or a liability?<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another on Looney\u2019s self-congratulations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026 there is little discourse on LinkedIn. It\u2019s puff pieces, humble bragging, and clapping hands when someone does a deal. No one on LinkedIn would question valuation for instance. But hey, if BP wants to double down on being a trash brand it\u2019s their prerogative. On the positive side, finally a SPAC that didn\u2019t lose money for all the bag holders\u2026<br><br>Few say anything on this platform that doesn\u2019t go along with the party line for fear of retribution.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The anti-fossil-fuel Left is hardly fooled either:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chump change off your current balance sheet, Looney. Utter hogwash dressed as greenwash.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/aramco\/\">Aramco<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/coal-india-limited-cil\/\">Coal India Limited<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/petrochina-international\/\">PetroChina International<\/a>&nbsp;have the largest global carbon dioxide footprint, followed by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/exxonmobil\/\">ExxonMobil<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/bp\/\">bp<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/bhp\/\">BHP<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/shell\/\">Shell<\/a>&nbsp;according to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/msci-inc\/\">MSCI Inc.<\/a>&nbsp;Net-Zero Tracker These combined emissions ALONE are on course to give us 2.9 degrees of warming, which is catastrophic.&nbsp;<br><br><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/bp\/\">bp<\/a>&nbsp;are also underreporting their Scope 3 emissions at&nbsp;&nbsp;327.6mln tonnes compared to an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.proactiveinvestors.co.uk\/companies\/news\/986207\/bp-bhp-exxon-under-reporting-co2-emissions-986207.html\">estimate of 647.9mln.<\/a><br><br>\u2026 So maybe less greenwash and more deeds. Your grandchildren are judging you already.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Biogas is to natural gas as holy water is to regular water. It gives it a halo. BP will market it as a sign of virtue to the innumerate masses. \u201cContains 10% biogas\u201d or whatever.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And an obvious observation:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Given the quantity of commercially available gas in the world today this seems like a complete waste of $4 billion.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Final Comment<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is time for real oil and gas companies to&nbsp;<strong>Go Proud<\/strong>. Chevron has&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.masterresource.org\/chevron\/chevron-oil-gas-the-future\/\">moved<\/a>&nbsp;in this direction.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/10\/11\/jamie-dimon-blasts-president-joe-biden-on-energy\/\">Jamie Dimon<\/a>, head of JP Morgan also. Liberty Energy&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.masterresource.org\/epstein-alex\/liberty-energy-offense\/\">has a lot of ideas<\/a>&nbsp;for the oil majors. After oil, IEA\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.masterresource.org\/international-energy-agency-iea\/iea-birol-more-oil-now\/\">Fatih Birol<\/a>&nbsp;and US DOE\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.masterresource.org\/u-s-department-of-energy\/doe-granholm-fantasy-speech-cera-2022\/\">Jennifer Granholm<\/a>&nbsp;have pleaded for more of the real thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Alex Epstein\u2019s&nbsp;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.masterresource.org\/epstein-alex\/epstein-on-energy-fossil-future-on-deck\/\">Fossil Future<\/a>&nbsp;<\/em>has provided the blueprint. BP needs to ditch both \u2018beyond petroleum\u2019 and Net Zero and get back to its core business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-blue-color\">The post\u00a0<a
