Fox Business<\/em>\u00a0broke a story about how several energy and environmental policy experts penned a letter of warning to congressional leaders, telling them that green energy policies damaged Europe\u2019s ability to provide reliable electricity to citizens. The warning explains that the U.S. can\u2019t afford to go down the same path and should embrace energy reliability rather than prioritize climate goals. This is the right approach, if the United States wants to avoid future energy crises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The article, \u201cEnergy experts sound alarm on Europe\u2019s energy crisis as \u2018clear and present warning\u2019 for America<\/a>,\u201d gives a fair look at the threat posed by bad actors abroad, and how green energy policy helps put the West in a vulnerable position against those threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

James Taylor, President of The Heartland Institute, was among the experts who signed the letter urging Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) to take a harder stance against domestic anti-fossil fuel policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fox Business<\/em> reporter Thomas Catanacci quotes Taylor, writing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFor political reasons, Europe chose to rely on renewable energy and also oil from hostile sources \u2014 in this case being Russia,\u201d James Taylor, the president of think tank Heartland Institute, told FOX Business in an interview. \u201cHere we have in the United States, we\u2019re being told by the environmental left, by the administration, that we should choose the same path, that we should be focusing on renewable energy. That\u2019s just a terrible path.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn Europe, you see electricity prices that are approximately double what they are here in the United States,\u201d he continued. \u201cThat, again, is because of the choices that they have made for renewable energy and relying on a hostile nation. We\u2019re setting ourselves up for the same thing, which would definitely be a bad idea.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taylor, along with fellow energy-realists Craig Rucker (Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow); Kent Lassman(Competitive Enterprise Institute); Myron Ebell (CEI\u2019s Center for Energy and Environment); Gregory Wrightstone, (CO2 Coalition); and Steve Milloy (Energy & Environment Legal Institute), are absolutely correct in this assessment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Energy prices in Europe have skyrocketed<\/a>, in the United Kingdom, business owners are paying 349 percent higher electricity prices, and 424 percent higher gas prices, compared to February 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2018 then-President Trump warned the United Nations that Germany\u2019s reliance on Russian natural gas along with their increasing share of renewables would lead to problems down the road, and the German delegation laughed<\/a> in his face. Today, Germany faces a severe energy crisis, so severe that they have been forced to turn back to the coal power<\/a> that they had eschewed in favor of renewables years ago, just to keep industry afloat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Germany was the biggest importer of Russian gas, which has been severely limited by the Russian invasion of Ukraine this spring. Germany\u2019s Economy Minister and Green Party<\/a> member Robert Habeck said that Germany\u2019s fallback on coal is \u201cbitter, but it\u2019s simply necessary in this situation to lower gas usage.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, strict energy rationing is enforced in Germany, in preparation for the winter heating demand, and private groups have even started patrolling neighborhoods<\/a> to make sure that no residents are heating their pools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Climate Realism<\/em> covered the potential for worsening energy security in the United States, here<\/a>, here<\/a>, and here<\/a>, for instance, pointing out that the U.S. has already begun to see some negative effects of an increasing reliance on intermittent sources like wind and solar. Texas and California are the preeminent examples of energy folly, suffering blackouts<\/a> when renewables fail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Energy prices climbed<\/a> in the U.S. long before the Ukraine war kicked off, and energy independence was undermined<\/a>, all thanks to the war on fossil fuels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If the present course for American energy policy is not changed, there may very well be even worse consequences on the horizon, as evidenced by the increasingly severe energy crisis in Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
