Instead the ban on chemical fertiliser was brought in to meet climate targets, as Sri Lanka\u2019s President made absolutely clear in his speech at COP26:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Nitrogen is an abundant element that is essential to the sustenance of all living things.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>However, reactive nitrogen generated by human activity and released into ecosystems worsens climate change.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Overuse of nitrogen, especially in fertilisers, has adverse impacts on soil, water, air, and human health.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>For decades, chronic kidney disease has been a serious issue in Sri Lanka\u2019s agricultural heartland.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The overuse of chemical fertilisers has contributed significantly to this problem.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>It is in this context that my Government took firm steps to reduce imports of chemical fertilizer, and strongly encourage organic agriculture.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-link is-provider-not-a-lot-of-people-know-that wp-block-embed-not-a-lot-of-people-know-that\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a \u2013 there was nothing\u00a0<em>\u201costensible<\/em>\u201d about it, and the only people I know of who \u201csuspect\u201d otherwise are the lying BBC!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even the President\u2019s own announcement of the ban in April 21 talks about the impact of nitrogen on health, but makes no mention of saving foreign reserves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Needless to say the correction is not listed in the on the BBC Complaints website, so not a soul will realise they were lied to in the first place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The BBC are obviously desperate that the public don\u2019t find out about all of the downsides to their Net Zero agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p
