They have helped drive increases in Canadian crop yields, grain sales, and exports,\u201d a&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/agriculture-agri-food\/news\/2022\/03\/government-seeks-guidance-on-path-towards-reducing-emissions-associated-with-fertilizer.html\"><em>news release<\/em><\/a><em>&nbsp;from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada reads.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cHowever, nitrous oxide emissions, particularly those associated with synthetic nitrogen fertilizer use have also grown significantly. That is why the Government of Canada has set the national fertilizer emissions reduction target, which is part of the commitment to reduce total GHG emissions in Canada by 40-45% by 2030\u2026.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>This is a tacit admission that any attempt to lower admissions by reducing nitrogen fertilizer will consequently lower crop yields over the next decade, hurting the Agriculture sector and, more importantly, hurting farmers.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>And indeed, according to a&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/fertilizercanada.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Emissions-Reduction-Initiative-Impacts-Solutions.pdf\"><em>report<\/em><\/a><em>&nbsp;from Fertilizer Canada:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>Total Emission Reduction puts a cap on the total emissions allowable from fertilizer at 30% below 2020 levels. As the yield of Canadian crops is directly linked to proper fertilizer application this creates a ceiling on Canadian agricultural productivity well below 2020 levels\u2026.<\/em><\/p><p><em>It is estimated that a 30% absolute emission reduction for a farmer with 1000 acres of canola and 1000 acres of wheat, stands to have their profit reduced by approximately $38,000 \u2013 $40,500\/ annually.<\/em><\/p><p><em>In 2020, Western Canadian farmers planted approximately 20.8 million acres of canola. Using these values, cumulatively farm revenues from canola could be reduced by $396M \u2013 $441M on an annual basis. Wheat famers could experience a reduction of $400M.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Moreover, Fertilizer Canada doesn\u2019t believe that forcibly decreasing fertilizer use will even lower greenhouse gases but could lead to carbon leakage elsewhere.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Nonetheless, Trudeau\u2019s government is moving forward, with farmer\u2019s groups speaking to Farmers Forum now wondering if he\u2019s intentionally&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/farmersforum.com\/trudeau-libs-ok-with-voluntary-fertilizer-cuts-conservative-ag-critic-doesnt-believe-it\/\"><em>trying to cause a food shortage<\/em><\/a><em>&nbsp;\u2014 which Trudeau&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/thecountersignal.com\/projected-food-shortages-imminent-trudeau-says\/\"><em>previously told<\/em><\/a><em>&nbsp;Canadians to prepare for.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cWe\u2019ve seen from the global pandemic to the war in Ukraine significant disruptions of supply chains around the world, which is resulting in higher prices for consumers and democracies like ours, and resulting in significant shortages and projected shortages of food and energy in places around the world,\u201d Trudeau said.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cThis is going to be a difficult time,\u201d he continued, \u201cbecause of the war, because of the recovery from the pandemic. And Canadians will do what we always do: we\u2019ll be there for each other.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Of course, reducing nitrogen emissions released by fertilizer crucial to the survivability of the agriculture sector isn\u2019t the only target of Trudeau\u2019s government. Every part of the economy has been negatively impacted by Trudeau\u2019s climate agenda.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>On April 1 \u2014 the same day he&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/thecountersignal.com\/trudeau-gives-himself-a-raise\/\"><em>gave himself a raise<\/em><\/a><em>&nbsp;\u2014 Trudeau decided to go ahead and jack up the carbon tax by an additional 25%, consequently increasing the price of practically everything.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>As Alberta MP Shannon Stubbs wrote at the time in an&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/thecountersignal.com\/stubbs-carbon-tax-hike-is-cruel\/\"><em>article<\/em><\/a><em>&nbsp;for The Counter Signal:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>The Liberal government is hiking the tax-on-everything carbon tax while Canadians struggle like never before with skyrocketing prices for essentials like food and fuel, heating, and housing\u2026.<\/em><\/p><p><em>Of course, the Liberals claim the carbon tax is \u201crevenue neutral.\u201d Whether for governments or for Canadians, that\u2019s just not true. The independent, non-partisan Parliamentary Budget Officer&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/distribution-a617274656661637473.pbo-dpb.ca\/6399abff7887b53208a1e97cfb397801ea9f4e729c15dfb85998d1eb359ea5c7\"><em>calculates the GST collected on carbon taxes at more than $200 million each year<\/em><\/a><em>, which goes straight into government coffers. Years ago, Conservatives tried to end this tax-on-a-tax, but the Liberals wouldn\u2019t budge.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Since boosting the carbon tax,&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/thecountersignal.com\/gas-exceeds-2-per-litre-across-canada\/\"><em>gas prices<\/em><\/a><em>&nbsp;have soared to over $2.00 per litre across Canada, with one Liberal candidate saying that the \u201csilver lining\u201d is that Canadians will be&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/thecountersignal.com\/ontario-liberal-candidate-wants-you-priced-out-of-driving\/\"><em>priced out of driving<\/em><\/a><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>And as with other problems facing our crumbling economy, Trudeau doesn\u2019t appear to be taking any actions to remedy it \u2014 unsurprising, as so often he is the root cause.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-the-counter-signal wp-block-embed-the-counter-signal\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"s3VgcBP4zc\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thecountersignal.com\/trudeau-nitrogen-policy-will-decimate-canadian-farming\/\">Trudeau&#8217;s nitrogen policy will decimate Canadian farming<\/a><\/blockquote><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"&#8220;Trudeau&#8217;s nitrogen policy will decimate Canadian farming&#8221; &#8212; The Counter Signal\" src=\"https:\/\/thecountersignal.com\/trudeau-nitrogen-policy-will-decimate-canadian-farming\/embed\/#?secret=v6chbBHNvr#?secret=s3VgcBP4zc\" data-secret=\"s3VgcBP4zc\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is not about just Canadian farmers, of course. If other countries follow suit, how will the world\u2019s poor be fed? If more land is farmed to make up for reduced yields, the emission savings will be offset by this new cultivation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Canadian emissions of nitrous oxide are less than 5% of the country\u2019s total GHGs, and just 0.06% of global ones, so Trudeau\u2019s plan will make next to no difference anyway.
