These geniuses got&nbsp;<em>everything<\/em>&nbsp;wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Coldest start to winter in decades for eastern Australia with power grid under strain<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The Guardian<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Early June temperatures in Melbourne didn\u2019t go above 15 degrees for first time in 70 years as cold weather pattern starts to break<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eastern Australia\u2019s giant cold snap is finally breaking down but not before temperatures reached lows not seen for seven decades or longer and pushed the country\u2019s main electricity grid to the brink.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The extended chill was caused by an unusual weather pattern that locked in cool pools of air over southern and eastern states, triggering the deepest snow dumps in the alps since 1968, according to Ben Domensino, a senior meteorologist at Weatherzone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Australia so cold it\u2019s already setting winter electricity demand records<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s not about record cold snaps, it\u2019s more of a long run of below average days. In a sign of how not-warm it is in Australia the sheer number of megawatts being used on the<a href=\"https:\/\/wattclarity.com.au\/articles\/2022\/06\/07june-nemwide-market-demand-exceeds-32000mw\/\">&nbsp;East Coast was the highest ever recorded for May,<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>WattClarity<\/em>&nbsp;noted that the first week of June was already in the top four years. Demand on June 7th this year was 32,000 Megawatts \u2014 the highest winter day since 2008. It\u2019s not as high as our highest summer records which are just under 36,000 MW.
