That is because increased forestation reduces reflection of solar radiation, substantially outweighing its cooling effect via carbon dioxide sequestration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As part of their Net Zero strategy, the government is spending&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/assets.publishing.service.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/attachment_data\/file\/1033990\/net-zero-strategy-beis.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u00a3750 million on reforesting in England by 2025<\/a>, at a time when public finances are under immense strain, and with food shortages threatened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new research findings,&nbsp;however, suggests that the Government\u2019s plans are not only wasteful \u2013 and often detrimental to the environment and food security \u2013 but will actually increase global temperature, the opposite of the intended effect of the Net Zero project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Full paper:<\/strong>\u00a0Deborah Lawrence et al.
