{"id":152998,"date":"2021-07-24T18:03:42","date_gmt":"2021-07-24T16:03:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/climatescience.press\/?p=152998"},"modified":"2021-07-24T18:03:44","modified_gmt":"2021-07-24T16:03:44","slug":"us-and-eu-outmaneuvered-as-g20-ministers-fail-to-agree-on-climate-goals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/climatescience.press\/?p=152998","title":{"rendered":"US and EU outmaneuvered as G20 ministers fail to agree on climate goals"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><em><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">NAPLES\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1636584\/g20-ministers-fail-to-agree-on-climate-targets\">(Reuters)<\/a>:\u00a0 Energy and environment ministers from the Group of 20 rich nations have failed to agree on the wording of key climate change commitments in their final communique, Italy\u2019s Ecological Transition Minister Roberto Cingolani said on Friday.<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thegwpf.com\/content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Screenshot-2021-07-24-at-14.52.30.png?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" height=\"732\" width=\"723\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.thegwpf.com\/content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Screenshot-2021-07-24-at-14.52.30-1011x1024.png?resize=723%2C732&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-65688\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The G20 meeting was seen as a decisive step ahead of United Nations climate talks, known as COP 26, which take place in 100 days\u2019 time in Glasgow in November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The failure to agree common language ahead of that gathering is likely to be seen as a setback to hopes of securing a meaningful accord in Scotland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cingolani told reporters that the ministers could not agree on two disputed issues which would now have to be discussed at a G20 summit in Rome in October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cCommitments made today lack substance and ambition.
